Privacy policy

Your journey is yours.

Journey Scroll keeps your reading, notes and private prayers on your phone. Two things can reach us, and both are your choice: what you post to a Group after signing in with Apple, and any email you send us. This page explains exactly what that means.

Effective 30 October 2026. Applies to the Journey Scroll app for iPhone and to journeyscroll.com.

The short version

What stays on your phone

The app keeps the following in its own database on your iPhone. It is included in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud or computer) under Apple’s backup protections, and it is not synced through iCloud by the app itself.

The Bible texts, lexicons, cross references, atlas and photographs are all bundled inside the app, so none of this requires an internet connection and no reading activity is transmitted. The one exception is the map itself: the Maps tab draws its base map with Apple Maps, which fetches map tiles from Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. The app never sends Apple your position, because it never has it.

Permissions the app asks for

None. Journey Scroll does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, photos or contacts. The map does not show where you are. When you add people to a text chain, the app opens Apple’s contact picker and receives only the phone numbers you tap; it never reads your address book. When you send a text, the app hands a prepared message to Apple’s Messages app and you tap Send.

Groups: what is sent and why

Groups is optional. If you never sign in, nothing in this section applies and the app makes no connection to our server.

Signing in

Groups uses Sign in with Apple. We ask Apple for your name only, not your email address. Apple gives us a stable identifier for your Apple account so we can recognise you next time. Your given name and family initial are suggested as a display name, which you can change (up to 60 characters); the display name is what other group members see. Your sign-in session is stored in the iPhone Keychain on your device.

What group members and leaders can see

Invitations

An invitation link carries a random token. We store only a one-way hash of that token, together with its expiry (seven days), its use limit (twenty-five) and whether it was revoked. Opening a link shows you the group name and the inviter’s display name; nothing joins you to a group until you tap Join.

Where it is stored

Group data is stored with Supabase, Inc., our database provider, in a project hosted in the United States (Ohio). Every table is protected by row-level security so that only members of a group can read that group’s data, and nothing is readable without signing in. Live updates are delivered over an encrypted connection and carry no names or text; the app fetches the details itself after you are signed in.

What we never do with it

We do not sell, rent or share group content with anyone, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to train artificial-intelligence systems. Group content is used only to run the Groups feature, to respond to reports and to keep the service secure.

Audit and security records

To keep groups safe, our server records a minimal log of actions such as joining, leaving, inviting, reporting and blocking (who, what and when). Invitation and join attempts may be logged briefly and limited to prevent abuse. When an account is deleted, these records keep only the account’s random identifier and the time of the action, with no name attached.

Sharing a verse or a prayer outside the app

When you share a passage as an image, a link or a text, that content goes wherever you send it (Messages, Mail, another app) under that service’s own terms. Passage links contain only the book, chapter, verses and translation. Links to Bible.com, used when a recipient does not have the app, open in the browser and are governed by Bible.com’s privacy policy.

Deleting your data

This website

journeyscroll.com is a static site hosted by Netlify. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third parties. Netlify, like any web host, may process your IP address and the pages you request in its server logs in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse, under Netlify’s privacy policy. Invitation and passage links opened on this site are handled entirely in your browser: the invitation token stays in the part of the address that is never sent to a server, and the site does not contact our database.

Children

Journey Scroll is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created a Groups account, email us and we will delete it.

Email

If you write to hello@, support@ or prayer@journeyscroll.com, we keep your message so that we can reply and, if needed, follow up. We do not add you to any list without asking. If you email us asking to hear when the app launches, we keep your message and reply to it personally when the app is live; we do not use your address for anything else. Our mailboxes are hosted by Apple’s iCloud Mail, so the email you send us is stored there under Apple’s privacy policy.

Changes

If the app begins to collect something new, this page will change first and the effective date above will be updated. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s About screen.
